About
What is Playground?
Playground is an experimental gaming platform where you can create custom games in minutes, no coding required.
Who can use Playground?
The platform is available in the United States for users 18 and over, with more countries coming soon.
Do I need to pay for Playground?
Users can play the catalog of games available on Playground free of charge. Please note that these are games created by other creators on Playground. For game generation, we offer a Free Tier that includes a limited number of tokens refreshed weekly. To unlock higher weekly token limits, you can subscribe to a Google One AI plan.
Does everyone have access to Playground game creation?
While anyone 18+ in the United States can immediately browse and play the catalog of games on Playground at launch, AI game creation is rolling out gradually in phases to ensure a reliable experience. Free-tier users can click Join Waitlist on playground.google to receive creation access in rolling batches as capacity expands, or unlock immediate creation access by subscribing to a Google One AI plan.
Where can I submit feedback?
Share feedback or report issues using the Feedback button in the footer.
Account & Profile
Why do I need a Play Games Profile?
Playground leverages the Play Games profile to ensure enablement of certain essential features which improve your experience on Playground. Once you create your Play Games profile, or log in through an existing Play Games profile, Playground can show you your activity on Playground, such as games you liked, games you created, and your Gamer Name on global game leaderboards. You can opt out of having your scores be visible in public leaderboards anytime from your Profile Settings on Playground or update your profile preferences at play.google.com/games/profile.
How can I create a new Play Games profile or edit my existing Play Games profile?
The first time you open Playground, you'll be prompted to create or connect a Play Games profile. You can also edit an existing profile anytime in Google Play.
How can I delete my personal data collected by Playground?
You can delete your Playground activity history or your entire Playground account and associated data at any time:
- Delete Gameplay Activity History: Visit your Playground MyActivity page (also accessible by clicking your profile avatar in the top right of Playground and selecting My Activity). From there, you can delete individual gameplay activity items or select Delete to clear all of your Playground activity history.
- Delete Your Entire Playground Account & Data: Go to your Playground Profile Settings and click Delete Playground account and data. This permanently deletes your Playground account, all games you have created, your leaderboard scores, and all associated personal data (except limited records which require retention in accordance with applicable law).
How can I export my personal data collected by Playground?
You can currently export and access your data today in two ways:
- Download Your Created Games & Source Code: Go to Your games, click the Edit (pencil) icon on any game you created to open it in the Creation Studio, and click Export (Download Zip) in the top header bar. This downloads a .zip archive containing your game's complete HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and generated asset files.
- View & Manage Your Gameplay History: You can view and manage a chronological record of the games you have played and when you played them on your Playground MyActivity page.
Game Creation & Vibe Coding
How do I create a game on Playground?
Describe your game idea in plain text on the creation screen and click the Generate icon. There are options for guided flows on that screen and you can upload reference photos to guide the visual style.
How do I edit an existing game?
Go to Your Games, select your draft or published game, click the pencil (edit) icon, and type conversational instructions in the chat box to modify gameplay logic, graphics, or rules. Tip: For best results when modifying your game, try making clear, focused changes rather than combining many complex requests into a single large prompt.
Can I continue to edit my game after I publish it?
Yes. You can continue to edit your game after it has been published. Game edits you make will remain private (in draft state) until you explicitly publish the game again. Click publish on the top right. After you click publish, the game is assessed against Playground's Community Guidelines before being made discoverable. The status of the assessment is visible for each game in “Your Games” section. Any existing published versions of the game will continue to be playable by others without interruption while you work on changes.
Can I upload my own images or videos to a game?
If you're eligible to create games on Playground, you can upload photos to influence your game's visual assets (such as themes, backgrounds, or character sprites), provided they comply with the Terms of Service and Community Guidelines. Uploaded images are transformed by AI into stylized assets matching your game's art style; original images aren't embedded directly. Only PNG and JPG image formats are supported (video isn't supported).
What happens if I accidentally click the “Generate” button? Can I stop my game creation after that?
Once game generation starts, you can click the stop button next to the chat box. The credits used for partial generation are not deducted. Your creation credits are only permanently deducted upon successful compilation. If generation fails or times out, your credit is automatically refunded.
What causes game generation to slow down or fail?
Processing times fluctuate based on peak usage, high traffic, or prompt complexity. If a creation failure occurs, a descriptive error message will be shown, and you can attempt the process again later. You can always play a game while yours is generating, you don't need to remain on the creation screen once you click generate. You can find all your games in 'Your Games,' even drafts.
Does Playground support multiplayer games?
Yes. The platform supports multiplayer games, both turn based and real-time, when you select the multiplayer chip in the initial game generation chat box, before game generation. Note: This feature is in early preview mode, and global platform leaderboards are not available for multiplayer games.
Google One AI Plans and Credits for Game Generation
Am I charged if a game fails to generate?
No. Your game generation credits are placed on hold when initiating game generation, and are only permanently deducted when the game successfully compiles and becomes playable. If the game generation process is unsuccessful, your credit is automatically refunded. In case of any disputes relating to utilization of your game generation credits, you can submit a query to customer support here.
How does Family Sharing work for these benefits?
Google One Family Sharing is currently not supported for Playground game creation credits. Credits cannot be pooled or transferred between family members at launch.
Game Management & Sharing
How do I change the share link for my game?
Go to Your Games, select your game settings, and toggle visibility between Unlisted and Listed, or generate a new link from the settings menu.
Why do I see an error when opening a game link?
This occurs if the creator deleted the game, set its visibility to Draft or Private, or if the game was removed for policy violations.
What are the different visibility statuses for a game?
- Draft: In-development and only visible to the creator. There is no standalone link for the game. The creator can return to the game via 'Your games' to edit it.
- Private: Only the creator can play and see the compiled game.
- Listed (Discoverable): The game is available to the public, and searchable by other users.
- Unlisted: Anyone with the unique short link from the creator can play the game, but the game is not searchable nor visible in public discovery.
Is it possible for me to control whether any or all of the games I've created are listed or visible on Playground for other users to play?
Absolutely. You hold complete authority over the visibility settings of every game you build. Every new creation begins automatically as a Draft, remaining private to you alone. Navigating to "Your Games" allows you to modify a game's visibility status at any moment. You can select from: Draft / Private (accessible exclusively by you); Unlisted (accessible only to those with your direct link, while remaining hidden from public search results, leaderboards, and the Discovery feed); or Listed / Discoverable (publicly accessible and searchable across Playground once it passes our safety evaluation to confirm compliance with Playground Community Guidelines).
How does a game become listed or visible on Playground for other users to play?
Games on Playground are never made visible to other users automatically. To share or list a game, you must manually publish it by clicking the Publish button in the Creation Studio header or by updating its visibility settings under "Your Games." You can choose between Unlisted (accessible solely through a direct link) and Listed (Discoverable) (publicly accessible across Playground). Prior to being publicly listed, every game must undergo automated Google safety screening to confirm adherence to our Community Guidelines.
Gameplay
What devices and browsers are supported?
- Creation: Optimized for modern mobile and desktop browsers.
- Gameplay: Most games are responsive across mobile (with a play on mobile QR/SMS option on desktop game pages), tablet, and desktop. Responsiveness may vary depending on how the creator made the game.
Note on Screen Optimization: Games are designed to be responsive across desktop and mobile devices. When prompting layout or UI modifications, keep in mind how controls and game elements will scale on smaller mobile screens.
How do game leaderboards work?
Leaderboards track and rank the top scores achieved in every game, visible before and after gameplay. Leaderboards are only available for single-player games that are publicly listed (Discoverable) on Playground (leaderboards are not available for Draft, Private, Unlisted, or Multiplayer games). Playground offers two types of leaderboards for eligible games:
- Global Leaderboards: Rank the top scores across all players globally whose leaderboard visibility is set to “on” in their Playground Profile Settings.
- Group Leaderboards: Private, invite-only leaderboards (up to 100 members) that you can create to compete directly with friends and family.
What are Group Leaderboards and how do I create one?
Group Leaderboards allow you to create custom, invite-only leaderboards for any game to compete directly with any group, like your friends, family, or gaming squad.
- How to create: Open any game, select the leaderboard section, and click Create Group Leaderboard to generate a unique invite link.
- Inviting players: Share the link with your group (each group leaderboard supports up to 100 members). Anyone who opens the link can join and log scores for that game.
- Managing members: The creator of the group leaderboard can remove members from the leaderboard settings at any time.
- Leaving a group leaderboard: Any member can exit a Group Leaderboard at any time by opening the Group Leaderboard (from the game page or the Leaderboard Hub opening the leaderboard settings menu), and selecting “Leave Group Leaderboard”. Once you leave, your score and gamer tag are immediately removed from that group.
Can I appear on a Group Leaderboard if my Play Games profile is private?
Yes. While private profiles are hidden from public Global Leaderboards, you can still participate in invite-only Group Leaderboards. When you accept an invitation to join a Group Leaderboard, you will be prompted to confirm that your gamer tag and score may be displayed to other members of that specific group.
What is the Leaderboard Hub?
The Leaderboard Hub is accessible via the Leaderboards tab in the left navigation menu. It provides a dashboard where you can:
- View your current rankings, scores, and badges across all games you've played.
- Easily access and check standings for all your Group Leaderboards.
- Jump straight into playing games where you want to beat your previous high score.
Leaderboards track and rank the top scores achieved in every game, visible before and after gameplay.
- Global Leaderboards: Rank the top scores across all players globally. Your gamer tag and avatar appear automatically if you have the leaderboard visibility toggle set to “on” in settings and achieve a qualifying score. If you have turned the toggle “off”, your gamer tag won't appear on global leaderboards and is only surfaced to you with a “private” label. You can update this anytime in settings.
- Group Leaderboards: You can create invite-only leaderboards to compete directly with friends and family.
Discovery & Community
Where can I see all my games?
On the left hand side, click on Your Games (your creations) to view all your created games.
How can I find more games from a specific creator?
Click on any creator's gamer tag or profile picture anywhere on Playground (including on game cards, gameplay pages, or leaderboards) to open their Creator Profile and view all of their published games.
How do I follow creators on Playground?
You can follow creators by clicking the Follow button next to their name anywhere it appears—including on game cards, game play screens, leaderboard rankings, and creator profile showcases. If there is no 'Follow' you can click on the creator's gamer tag and then you'll see their profile with a follow button. If a creator's profile is private, clicking Follow will send a follow request that they must accept. Once following, you can unfollow a creator at any time from their profile page. Please note that following a creator, even if they accept your follow request on a private profile, only allows you to see their publicly Listed (Discoverable) games. Following a creator also adds their newly published creations to your 'Games by Creators You Follow' carousel on the Discovery page. A creator's Draft, Private, and Unlisted games remain hidden from followers.
How do I share a creator's profile or my own profile?
Click on any creator's profile picture or gamer tag anywhere on Playground - including game cards, gameplay pages, leaderboard rankings, and discovery carousels - to open their Creator Profile. From their profile, you can view all of their published, discoverable games, follow them to see their latest releases on your home feed, or click Share to share their profile showcase with others.
Safety, Moderation & Appeals
How do I report a game?
Every game page features a Report (flag) icon. Clicking this allows you to submit a report for legal or policy violations.
Why was my game removed, and can I appeal?
Games are removed if they are manually deleted by the creator or in the event that the games are found to be violative of extant laws, or if we find the games violative of our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service. In the event that a game was found to be violative of our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service, you can submit an appeal through the Playground Appeals Center.
